  • No! The goal of Folia is to help all users, both with or without an official diagnosis. In fact, we have a large number of individuals on a diagnostic odyssey. They are using Folia to track their symptoms and report changes to their doctor as they work together to find a diagnosis. Read about one user’s story with an autoimmune diagnostic journey here.

Tracking with the Folia app

  • The primary goal of Folia is to help you quickly capture the observations that you make every day using a set of personalized multiple-choice questions. You have full control over the questions that you want to answer, and the style in which they are asked - multiple choice, scale of 1-10. Over just a few weeks of using Folia, you’ll build a comprehensive database of what we call “home-reported outcomes.”

  • You can bring this information to your next appointment using the Appointment Guide – a report on your Folia data that we developed alongside doctors and nurses. We did this to make sure it’s helpful in the context of the clinic. What you track really matters – we’ve already heard from users who have made changes to their treatment plans based on the information that they’ve tracked in Folia

Data + Folia – All You Need to Know

  • At Folia, we are committed to understanding every aspect of a disease or illness, and one way to do that is through research. With your permission, we share de-identified and aggregated data for research. This means that there are never any names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other personally-identifiable information included in the datasets that we share for research.

Your data is your own, and we want to respect your privacy. Therefore, data sharing is fully optional, and we will never turn your data over to any third party without your consent.

  • We understand that Folia members are entrusting us with very personal and sensitive information during some of the most stressful and difficult times in their lives. So we have put a lot of effort into:

Exceeding the standards legislated under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).

Limiting data access only to employees who require it to perform their job responsibilities.

Using industry best practices such as multi-factor authentication, business associate agreements (BAAs) with vendors (such as email, data storage, etc.), virtual private networks (VPNs), etc. to ensure our systems are as secure as possible.

  • In light of recent developments with the Supreme Court and the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we want to assure you that any data related to a menstrual cycle and other women’s health is your private and confidential knowledge, and will be protected.

Data Dividends

  • We believe you should be compensated for contributing your data to research.

  • When your research sharing settings are turned on, your data can be contributed to internal research. It is fully anonymized. If you qualify for an external study, you would go through a separate consent process.

  • You will get $4 a month ($48 a year) on a quarterly basis. In order to qualify for this, you must:

    • Log into your Folia account to track something once a week

    • You can either actively track your same-day observations, or you can "multi-day track" a range of days at once

    • Since we know life gets busy, we'll give you one bonus week a month!
